Entry 14

Dear Diary,

It was a long, tiring day.

Probably the hardest day of my life.

Remember the cameras I told you about yesterday?

Well, I had to put them up today.

I had to climb trees just to get some of them high enough, and I also had to build little cages around the cameras because stupid birds kept landing on them. I don't know what birds have against cameras, but apparently they have something against them.

I had around thirty cameras to deal with.

Thirty.

I didn't know there were that many places worth watching until I started putting them up.

I also had to put some around the entrance to the underground tunnels.

Even someone as sane as me would be concerned about those sex caves that have demons living in them.

I don't trust my family.

That's all.

I think that's a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Well, Lexie has her own room now.

And my lovely Melissa has hers too.

I had to clean both rooms, which wasn't very difficult, except I kept finding chainsaws in the most unexpected places.

There was even one inside a kitchen drawer.

I wonder who planned to hide it there.

It works, though.

I might use it.

Not today.

Today I had to go buy a lot of food for the girls. I don't want to have problems later because somebody is hungry. Hunger can make people do strange things, and I already have enough strange things happening around here.

I suppose I could have left all of this for tomorrow.

But I forced myself to do it today.

I think I needed something to do.

Because I felt lonely.

Not normal lonely.

The other kind.

The kind where you feel like you're living for no reason.

Like you're walking somewhere even though you don't know where you're going.

Like there is a hole in your chest and you're supposed to pretend it isn't there.

I don't like that feeling.

So I kept myself busy.

Sometimes I think I can fix loneliness by simply giving myself enough things to do.

It almost works.

And when it doesn't, I make myself laugh.

I said a crazy joke about a retarded person today.

I laughed for quite a while.

Sometimes I really hope I never get separated from myself.

I think I would miss me.

Anyway, I tried cutting wood for the first time.

That was probably the stupidest thing I have ever written in this diary.

It turns out I can't cut a single piece of wood with an axe.

Not even one.

I know.

I know.

Don't laugh.

I didn't want to use the chainsaw.

There might come a time when I need it.

Maybe I will want to cut off Lexie's arm or leg one day.

An arm sounds better.

I don't know why.

Maybe because you can still walk without an arm.

Or maybe I will need it for the demons in the tunnels.

I haven't decided yet.

I did go down there, though.

That was a bad idea.

Especially because I went at night.

I checked on the girls first, then went into the tunnels.

The place is actually well made.

Cement walls.

Proper entrances.

Everything.

It isn't like mine.

It feels more like the hallways of some old company that disappeared a long time ago.

I don't know what kind of company builds tunnels underneath a house.

Maybe a very successful one.

Maybe a very unsuccessful one.

I didn't take any turns.

Obviously.

I am not stupid.

I walked straight ahead because I didn't want to get lost.

The place was completely dark without the lights.

The only light I had was from the torch I was carrying.

I kept thinking I would see something standing at the end of the hallway.

I didn't.

At least not that I noticed.

I also didn't stay long enough for the darkness to pull me in.

So I left.

I had to put a door there afterward.

Not just any door.

A titanium door.

Apparently it was the kind of door they used in those butcher rooms where they store meat.

I don't know why someone had a door like that.

But I'm glad they did.

I put it there because it was night and I didn't want to have nightmares.

I don't think I would sleep very well knowing that those tunnels were sitting underneath me with nothing between us except a normal door.

So now there is titanium between us.

Much better.

I only slept for four hours.

I woke up and wrote this.

My eyes are tired.

My body is tired.

My head is tired.

Everything is tired.

So I think I need to sleep now.

Good night, Diary.

Please don't give me any more ideas tonight.
