Businesses can now advertise vacancies directly through the government-backed employment platform.
The government has launched a new employment application designed to connect businesses with people looking for work, giving companies a centralized place to announce vacancies whenever positions become available.
The application, RavenHire, is expected to be used by businesses across the city and surrounding communities.
Rather than relying entirely on advertisements, personal connections, or spending hours searching through different companies for available positions, job seekers will be able to browse opportunities posted directly by participating businesses.
The concept has already attracted attention among younger residents.
"It's great," one university student told us. "I guess that means we won't have to worry about finding jobs that much anymore."
The application allows businesses to publish information about available positions, including the type of work, requirements and other details potential applicants may need before applying.
For students and recent graduates in particular, the system could prove useful.
Ravenport has a large student population, with thousands of young people regularly searching for part-time work, internships and permanent employment after graduation. Having vacancies collected in one place could make the process considerably less frustrating.
Not everyone is convinced that an app can solve Ravenport's employment problems, however.
Posting a vacancy is one thing.
Actually getting hired is another.
Still, government officials appear optimistic about the platform and have encouraged businesses to make use of it whenever they have positions available.
For Ravenport residents, the biggest question now is whether businesses will actually embrace it.
If they do, the days of wandering around the city asking businesses whether they're hiring could become a thing of the past.
For once, Ravenport's government may have created something people actually wanted.
Now if only they could make an app for finding affordable apartments.
