Man Uses Robot Vacuum to Expose Wife's Affair, Wins Case, Then Lands in Jail

A Ravenport man who used a robot vacuum cleaner to uncover his wife's affair has won a legal dispute involving their marriage, only to find himself facing criminal charges after secretly recording her.

The man, whose identity has not been released, reportedly became suspicious after noticing that his wife was frequently spending time in the living room late at night while he was asleep.

Rather than confront her immediately, he reportedly purchased a robot vacuum equipped with a built-in camera and allowed it to operate throughout the house.

According to court documents, footage recorded by the device eventually showed the woman meeting another man inside the residence.

The footage was later presented during divorce proceedings, where the court ruled in the man's favor.

However, the victory was short-lived.

Authorities subsequently opened an investigation into the recordings after it was discovered that the robot vacuum had been deliberately positioned and monitored by the man in order to secretly record conversations inside the home.

Prosecutors argued that while the footage had helped establish his wife's affair, the method used to obtain it violated privacy laws.

The man was subsequently arrested and charged with unlawful recording.

"He proved that she was cheating," one neighbor said. "Then he basically proved that he was spying on her."

The case has sparked debate among Ravenport residents over whether evidence of wrongdoing should still be admissible when it is obtained illegally.

Some residents have also questioned the growing number of household devices capable of recording people without their knowledge.

The robot vacuum, meanwhile, remains in police custody as part of the investigation.

The man's wife declined to comment.
