Northern Ravenport — The Northern Ravenport government has announced a nationwide policy restricting the use of personal mobile phones by students under the age of eighteen while attending school.
The decision follows a government investigation into declining academic performance, increased classroom distractions, and concerns regarding young students gaining access to inappropriate adult material through internet-connected devices.
According to the Ministry of Education, officials began reviewing the issue after reports showed that some children were encountering explicit online content at increasingly younger ages. The government stated that early exposure to adult material, online exploitation, and harmful digital influences were contributing factors in rising social concerns among teenagers.
"The classroom must remain a place for education, growth, and preparation for the future," Education Minister Adrian Vale said. "We cannot allow technology designed for communication to become a tool that damages the development of our children."
The government also linked the policy to concerns surrounding increasing teenage pregnancy rates in Northern Ravenport. Officials argued that protecting young people's futures requires stronger prevention measures rather than waiting until problems occur.
Under the new regulations, schools will provide secure storage systems where students must place their devices during school hours. Emergency communication systems will remain available for families who need to contact students.
Supporters of the policy believe the measure will help students focus on education and reduce exposure to harmful online content.
However, critics argue that banning phones alone will not solve deeper social issues and that students should instead be taught responsible internet use.
The Northern Ravenport administration responded that the policy is only one part of a broader youth protection strategy, stating:
