Dear Diary,
Something has been concerning me.
Making me worry a lot.
It has gotten to the point where even hearing someone say—
“Melissa.”
—I get worried.
I start thinking they are going to ask questions.
Where is Melissa?
Why isn't she at work?
When did anyone last see her?
Things like that.
That's normal, I know.
But I forgot about it.
I was too caught up in having Melissa in my house.
Consumed by the fact that now she is truly mine.
Although she didn't understand what I explained to her.
Why I took her.
Why I took her friend too.
But it doesn't matter.
We all start wrong.
Then time passes.
Then we start thinking the right way.
I'm sure as time passes, Melissa will learn the right way to think.
I will teach her.
As for her friend, I have no other choice.
I need to ask her questions.
I think I will leave her in her own room for now.
Maybe the basement.
Melissa should stay with me.
She deserves better.
Today I did try to look through some of Melissa's things.
She seems to wear a lot of tomboy clothes.
And she has some weird jewelry.
I like her taste, though.
So I took some of the clothes I liked and moved them into my room.
She can change whenever she wants.
I thought that was thoughtful.
She shouldn't have to worry about those things.
But it doesn't change the other problem.
People might start looking for Melissa.
I don't like that.
If they start asking too many questions, things could become difficult.
I think the best thing might be to disappear myself.
Maybe make everyone think I am gone.
Then no one would have to look for me.
And Melissa wouldn't have to worry either.
We would just need somewhere else to stay.
Somewhere safer.
Somewhere we can stay together.
Forever.
I'll think about it tomorrow.
I have to sleep now.
I'm still going to work tomorrow.
I don't want anyone to think anything is wrong.
Everything is fine.
It is.
I have Melissa.
And soon, I think, we'll have a new home.
A safer one.
One where nobody can take her away from me.
Good night, Diaryyyy.
I feel happy somehow.
I think things are finally going the right way.
