UNKNOWN FOUR-LEGGED BEAST
The incident occurred shortly after 11:00 p.m. near the eastern side of the city.
According to the witness, Samuel Reed, he was returning home when he noticed something standing beneath a streetlamp approximately thirty metres ahead of him.
“At first I thought it was a person,” Reed told the Havenfall Chronicle. “Then it moved.”
Reed described the creature as being approximately the size of a large child, covered entirely in dark fur, with four legs, two pointed ears, and a long tail.
“It looked at me,” Reed said. “I swear it looked directly at me.”
The creature reportedly remained still for several seconds before crossing the road and disappearing between two buildings.
Reed did not follow it.
“I've never seen anything like it before.”
Neither have the authorities.
I contacted Havenfall Police Chief Arthur Bell regarding the report and asked whether the department had received similar sightings.
Chief Bell's response consisted of four words:
“We don't have wildlife.”
I asked whether he believed the witness had simply mistaken another person or object for an animal.
He did not answer.
The department has not issued an official identification of the creature, nor has it confirmed whether officers were able to locate it.
Interestingly, several residents in the surrounding area reported hearing what one described as “scratching sounds” later that night. None reported seeing the creature themselves.
There is also no known record of wild animals inhabiting Havenfall's streets.
The city has no wildlife management department, and reports involving unidentified animals are exceedingly uncommon.
Reed, however, remains convinced of what he saw.
“I know what a person looks like,” he said. “That wasn't a person.”
When asked whether he would recognize the creature if he saw it again, Reed answered immediately.
“Yes.”
As of publication, the animal remains unidentified.
For now, residents are advised to report any unusual wildlife sightings to the Havenfall Police Department.
Though, judging by Chief Bell's response, there may be a more fundamental question worth asking:
What exactly did Samuel Reed see?
